Honest limits
- Not every drive can be recovered. A drive that has been overwritten, badly burnt or physically destroyed may be beyond recovery.
- SSDs erase deleted data in the background (TRIM), so deleted files on an SSD are harder to recover than on a hard disk.
- Encrypted drives (BitLocker, FileVault) need the recovery key; without it the data cannot be read.
- Recovery from a mechanically failed hard disk can need clean-room lab work. We tell you if that applies before any cost.

Usually, yes. If the laptop has a board or screen fault but the drive is fine, the files can be copied off the drive. On laptops with storage soldered to the board, such as recent MacBooks, the board may need to be repaired first.
